PROGRAMS:

The Arc helps families to raise their child diagnosed with a developmental disability at home and supports adults to live in their community, close to work, family and friends through the provision of these programs:

Service Coordination:

Home Based Service Coordination is available for adults aged 18 and over who receive funding through the Illinois Department of Human Services (DHS) Home-Based Program.

Family Assistance Coordination is available for children and teens under the age of 18 who receive funding through the Illinois Department of Human Services Family Assistance Program. Coordinators assist with finding service providers, provide referrals and facilitate timely recording and payment requirements.

Independent Living Support provides services to adults aged 18 and older to enable them to live as independently as possible in the community. Support includes budgeting assistance, representative payee services, self-advocacy training, advocacy and referral designed to help participants achieve their goals.

Family Support enables a child or adult living at home to be an integral part of their family and the community through individual case management and advocacy. Our coordinator can help with resources and referral, education, training and direct advocacy.

Guardianship Assistance helps families make guardianship choices for a person who is or will soon be 18 years of age or older. Who needs a guardian, who can become a guardian, what kinds of guardianship are there, and much more is provided upon request. Guardianship assistance is provided to families at low cost. Documents are prepared and an attorney provides services at a nominal fee.

Help Yourself offers functional reading and math assessment and tutoring to youth and adults who are motivated to achieve greater independence through higher education or employment.

Self Advocacy Training promotes self advocate leaders through collaboration with Illinois Voices and ISAIL self advocate groups.

Kiwanis Aktion Club is sponsored by The Arc. This club is for and by people with disabilities who want to serve their community.

Project Art focuses on the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the arts. This program focuses on all areas of fine arts - dance, music, theater and visual arts.   New experiences and opportunities are included whenever possible and creativity is encouraged. Workshops are based on the interests of the participants. The Project Art workshop is open during all business hours for participants to pursue their creative projects in addition to artist lead workshops and community outings.

Beadware artists make and sell jewelry and home decor items including Awareness and Birthstone stretch bracelets, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, purple and red hat bracelets, pink and lavender hat bracelets, salt and pepper shakers and decorated serving pieces.

Social Activities offers recreation and socializing opportunities and workshops.   Facilitated by staff and developed with participant input, weekly socials are scheduled. Workshops focus on social skills, safe relationship building, money management, and other independent living skills.
