SELF ADVOCACY:

The Arc sponsors Self Advocacy Training for people with developmental disabilities who want to learn how to be leaders and spokespeople on behalf of themselves and others with developmental disabilities.  

· ILLINOIS VOICESLeadership Training workshops in collaboration with Macon Resources in Decatur IL with a grant from the Illinois Council on Developmental Disabilities.

People with disabilities who want to become leaders complete a year long series of workshops. Thereafter they are expected to apply their skills to advocate at the local, state and federal level.

· I-SAIL –Illinois Self Advocates In The Lead— Trained self advocates are hired to conduct focus groups in their region of Illinois to discuss the priorities and concerns of people with developmental disabilities 

· Arc Self Advocates– Trained self advocates are available to mentor new self advocates. All self advocates are encouraged to use The Arc’s Self Advocates Office, which offers online computers, phone, fax and copying services.
